Mike Stroud OBE
Mike Stroud is best known for his record-breaking expeditions with Sir Ranulph Fiennes. He is a world authority in human endurance and nutrition as well as being a renowned expedition scientist.

ABOUT MIKE STROUD
Mike Stroud is a Doctor and Explorer. He held various NHS posts from 1979 to 1989 and then spent 6 years researching into human performance and endurance, becoming The Chief Scientist in physiology for the Centre for Human Sciences at the Defence Research Agency. He then returned to NHS Medicine in the Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust becoming Consultant gastroenterologist and Senior Lecturer in Medicine and Nutrition in 1998.
Mike joined the "Footsteps of Scott Antarctic" expedition in 1985, spending a whole year living in Antartica before completing 5 North Pole expeditions between 1986 and 1990. In 1992/93 he crossed the Antarctic with Sir Ranulph Fiennes on foot, the first unsupported crossing in history. Mike then led the UK team in the Marathon des Sables, Sahara Desert in 1994 and followed this up with Eco-Challenge adventure races in both 1995 and 1996. His next challenge was to take on the first unsupported, non-stop desert crossing of Qatar in 2002, followed by seven full marathons on seven continents in seven days with Sir Ranulph Fiennes in 2003. Most recently he has climbed in the Himalayas and led research on nutrition when climbing Everest.
Mike was awarded the OBE in 1993 for services to charity and the Polar Medal in 1995.
